What happens during the exam?
Electrodes go on your chest.

What should you bring?
The most forgotten thing is the simplest. MedlinePlus puts it in one line: wear comfortable shoes and loose clothing to allow you to exercise. Arriving in dress shoes is a genuine reason for rebooking.

All four lines share the idea of exertion and none is booked in the same place. Reading the whole exam order avoids the wasted trip.
How long does it take, and how is the rest of the day?
The appointment covers fitting, baseline recording, exercise and recovery, so it runs considerably longer than the time on the machine. With no sedation involved, most people carry on with their day afterwards, and your centre will tell you if your case calls for something else.
Why does this order get lost?
Because it needs three things at once: a room with a treadmill, a doctor present throughout, and a person able to walk that day. If any of the three fails, the whole appointment slot is lost and rebooking goes back to the end of the queue.
Then there is the double-order trap. When a stress test comes alongside an echocardiogram, booking one feels like having settled both, and the one left pending appears on no list at all.
What should I do if I am holding one?
- Count how many exams the order carries. If there are two, book both in the same call.
- When you call, say ergometría and also electrocardiograma de esfuerzo. One of the two will be in the catalogue.
- Ask for the instruction on food, coffee and medicines, and write it down.
- Lay out loose clothing and walking shoes the night before.
- If you cannot walk that day for any reason, call ahead rather than turning up.
